Hey my name is Steven and I am interested in getting a paper route. I am 15 and I don't know if I can have a paper route at my age but if I can, does anyone knows, how am I supposed to go about getting one?

The Vindicator print edition is a dying thing kid. The only people who subscribe are old @#$%& who aren't internet savvy. They don't pay their bills and don't give tips at Christmas time.

Get a job that isn't 7 days a week including holidays and that pays more than a few dollars a week.

There, fixed!

Good luck Steven, and kudos to you trying to get a job. It's tough out there.

69 percent growth in mainframe says otherwise. Or can't you read?

Steven, pay no attention to negative Con, they are canvassing as we speak for more Vindy customers with some success. A paper route is a buck until a better opportunity comes along. Good luck doing some honest work!!!

A paper route is indeed a buck. 7 days a week including holidays. (getting up early too)

And they pay you about a buck.

But, the @#$%& who drive around in the warm car and throw out the bundles that you then have to work on in subzero weather get paid a handsome sum. It's money YOU should be making as the carrier.

Get a job at Taco Bell and work your way into management.

Never feed trolls, Steven!

And be wary of self-appointed experts on a newspaper message board.

The Vindy @#$%& want YOU Steven to do the hard work. Delivering maybe 60-100 papers 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year and pay you peanuts for all that effort. While the @#$%& at the Vindy who watch the machines print the paper and the drivers who deliver it to you make eeesta money. They are mini capitalist and you are their slave. They don't think of it that way but that's what you are.

Try collecting from the deadbeats who won't pay. Guess what, the Vindy bosses who collect from you don't care that the guy in Cortland isn't paying YOU, they want paid for their paper OUT OF YOUR POCKET.

Find another job Steven, paper boy isn't the job it was 40 years ago. It's way too hard and pays way too little.

Yes Steven, by all means listen to a guy who gets paid way too much to sit on his size XL butt and post on the vindy site all day. Hates the vindy folks, but loves trolling their forum.

I don't like to give any notice to worthless individuals but this person corruting conservatives is about as stupid as the jap car freak. It is best to skip over any posts by them because they are all cries for attention even if it is negative.I have many views that are outside the mainstream but I don't spout juvenile nonsense just to be noticed. Now this is my final notice of two absolutley childish freaks.

Some of these comments sound as if they are suggesting:

In some organizations there are employees who are overworked, underpaid and blatantly disregarded - by superiors who only worry about getting their money.

Hmmm. I think there may be a new champion for the cause.

Steven, Thats a great name by the way. I would suggest that you contact your local newspaper carrier and see if maybe they need some help with their route. It is very time comsuming for them to insert each paper with the fliers and then fold and bag the papers before beginning their deliveries. They may be willing to hire you to perform that task for them.

Good luck to you, and keep the strong work ethic you posesses. It will serve you well as time goes by.

Close but not quite.

The Vindy @#$%& want a piece of the action and are willing to take advantage of the young dumb paper carrier to achieve their end. Kind of sounds like capitalist right?

Steven needs to learn that lesson early.

Just as unions are more than happy to throw the younger union members under the bus so that the seniority laden members don't have to sacrifice at all.

Kind of goes against the brother/sister claim huh?

So much for socialism which would dictate all members of the unions sacrifice.

Unions are nothing more than entity destroyers. Post office, auto, steel, greece, states, etc.

Steven,

A paper route is a serious job. Here are some other ideas, but they are also serious and time-consuming.

1. Babysitting -- I had a decent babysitting business when I was 14. That was because I was trustworthy, and because I actually did activities WITH the kids instead of just being a body in the house. I had a set of activities for kids of different ages ready: board games, sports equipment, picture books, and the materials for a craft project. Goodwill is a good source for some of these, so is the library.
I had a customer who had me every Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. while the parents went to Church, breakfast, shopping etc. I had a customer who had me on retainer for Saturday nights by paying me for every Saturday, whether needed or not.
Get the word out in your neighborhood with a flyer on bulletin boards in the churches, library, and grocery stores.

2. Ask your school district if they have student helpers to clean the schools (you may have to go to the elementary school.)

3. Ask your school counselor to help you get a job at a restaurant bussing tables. Restaurants will not let you be a server at your age, but they will let you help and watch the servers. Then, if you are reliable, they will hire you as a server when you are older.

4. I cut grass for my neighbors with my dad's push mower. Warning: some of them are really picky for what you are paid. Put up with it.

5. I also cut grass for a real estate broker who had vacant houses on the market.

>>Unions are nothing more than entity destroyers. Post office, auto, steel, greece, states, etc.<<

How did this become a discussion about unions?

Regardless... Con, you are scum. This kid is out trying to find a job on his own, doing what he thinks he might like to do, and you discourage him... tell him to get a job at Taco Bell. Unbelievable. Maybe the kid doesn't want to work at a fast food joint, maybe he doesn't want be inside, maybe he likes the out doors. Maybe he just wants to work early before school, then have the rest of the day to do whatever. Maybe he already has an afternoon job and wants to make a few more bucks. Maybe he spends afternoons in his garage inventing the next generation of mainframes. Your advice was that coming from a person who can't see beyond the nose on his face, very shallow and unimaginative. It's stupid advice. But, considering the source...

Steven, welcome to your first (maybe your first) lesson as to how stupid grown ups can be.

This was a thread started by a young man who wants to do the right thing, earn his own money. He should be applauded for that. He does not need some negative nelly making him feel as if his quest for a job is all wrong. It isn't going to be his lifes work, for crying out loud, just as a job at Taco Bell wouln't be.

Steven, go for the job. My brother was a paper carrier as a young man and it taught him many good life lessons. And paper carrying today isn't what it was 40 years ago. Good luck to you, I have a feeling you'll go far.

Forgot one,

If you are a good student, get the word out (as in babysitting) that you are available for tutoring elementary kids in math, reading, etc. Make your customer aware that you will not work for less than 4 hours a week.

Not discouraging him at all. Just trying to direct him to jobs where he will get more of the benefits of his labor. Paper routes are not the choice. They pay LESS THAN MINIMUM wage for work that is 24 by 7 52 weeks a year. Mainly so the Vindy @#$%& can make more than they are worth only because they are unionized. It's the reverse Robin Hood theory and why unions are a disgrace. Pay the 15 year old pennies while the guy who drops off the bundle has a Vindy supplied car and gets paid union scale.

And yet you wonder why the Vindy has a hard time getting carriers???

Gosh, dimwit, looks like you're discouraging him to me.

Also, you're obsessed to the point that you turn a simple thread where a kid is asking about a paper route into one of your standard-issue union-hate rants. Seek help. Seriously.
