Does the different sides of town have a community center to curtail some of the nonsense. I remember the McGuffey and East Side Community Center which the two directors brought peace plenty of time during gang or sides of town "Uprising". Who is doing it now? My visit home reveal the churches are not doing too much of nothing. Other school activities were racist but the community leaders became innovative and drum down any type of community hosilities. If the different sides band together with whatever resources such as counches, tables and chairs and plenty of dicussion groups with parental security a slight drop is promise to occur. Yes, the parents playing cop or is they the ones who is instigating the different issues? Come out come out where ever you are and save the children. Quit being scared of them or be thier friends but become mother and fathers and guardians. Thank God for the Old School. They brought razor straps and switches mix with a little good sense and straight talk and we grew up on the playing fields. Who ever getting the money tell them to put it back in especially the dope pushers, (The New Mafia). At least the Old Mafia contribute something to the community. If they can't or won't than run them out of town. Now there goes two beautiful weddings. The future grandmothers of Youngstown Ohio gone behind pettiness, angorant and ill preceive notions of true to life drama.

I'm in my 30s and I don't remember any side of town "uprisings." All the rivalries were on the basketball court or football fields. Most of their parents don't know how to live or behave, so this is why you see them acting out like this. I watch on a daily basis as parents in Youngstown encourage annd teach their kids to disrespect people, the law, and to fight. They think violence, intimidation, and murder is a proper response to disagreements. Until someone finds a way to stop people not fit to be parents (I think the end of the welfare state would work) from having these monsters, this is only going to continue and get worse.

In the end, there is absolutely NO JUSTIFICATION for what occured, but the answer should be apparent to those who are TRUE AND REAL BELIEVERS. My heart is so saddened by this shooting, because like many people I knew the two young men arrested and their families. So many lives are being touched by this tragedy. One thing we must not do is judge the parents of the young girl or the young men. I know the comment I am getting ready to make will not sit well with some people, so I must say regardless of the comment, I DO NOT IN NO WAY CONDONE OR MAKE EXCUSES FOR THE YOUNG MEN'S ACTIONS. The law is the law and it must be followed by everyone no matter the sitation or person. But, please do not pre-judge these young men or their families. Believe me when I say, they are two young men with so much potential and have families who work hard to provide them a better way. Unfortunately, they fell prey to the enenmie's hands (satan). It is a sad situation and I ask you to keep all of the families involved in your prayers, especially the young girl's family. As a single parent of a 12 yr. African-American, I see what I need to continue to do and pray to God for in order to find my son and myself exempt from the turmoil's of this world. Thank God for pre-paid legal services.

Just tell me what the Youngstown school board was thinking putting all these kids together in one new school, and calling it East high school?? There will probably a lot more trouble before it gets better. Also I can't believe that a persons life means that little to another human being. It sure sounds like these kids are really less than animals.

How (and Why) did "disrespecting me" become a justification for murder in black culture?

This young woman had her life cut short, by all accounts, because of a feud between two high school groups, part of which spilled over onto a web site. I think what ytown wrote about keeping the name (and mascot) of the old East High was yet another blunder by YSB - one which could still be rectified. There, I think, should be a concerted campaign to put to rest all remnants of Old East High, and build a new school spirit from the ground up.

Otherwise, as ytown said, "There will probably a lot more trouble before it gets better."

PS I give credit to the mother who turned her son into police at 3am.
I bet she browbeat him into telling the police the name of the
shooter, too. A good woman, she.

I agree with you, the mother is a good woman. It would take a lot of courage to turn your own child in. She has high morals! Good Woman! I hope she doesnt regret it later, because she did do the right thing. I feel bad for her.

I admire Rachel Wilkins, mother of the 17 year old woman savagely murdered on Youngstown's north side early Saturday morning.

She is appropriately handling her understandable grief in a private way. NOT phishing for the condolences of strangers on the internet.

She took time out from that grief to issue a needed "wake up call" to others in the black community that they alone can "take a bite out of"
black-on-black crime.

This woman has guts and a strong community spirit.

And that is why I so admire her.

I too admire mom (must have made her sick to make that call).I believe no tolerence should begin at home, and males need to understand more than sperm is needed to be a father.

me Wrote: You are correct, the mother of Robert Jackson, Jr. is a good woman. Believe me the courage she had to turn her son in was courage from God. No doubt, it was hard handing your son who is just about to graduate over to the police but that encourages me to know there is still a few good women in the world who will not allow their son to get away with...whatever! She is showing him what it means to be accountable for your actions instead of making excuses. A woman making a man be accountable is a step in the right direction. I know very little about the other boy and the other 2 possible arrest, but I hope those mothers do not make excuses for their sons.
