I would like to say that this was a great community challenge that made valid points. It is extremely difficult to eat healthy when the cost of the healthy items are soooo expensive. I grew up under that poverty gap and remember eating pasta...and chicken all the time. Why? It is cheap...there was no such thing as having wheat pasta or 1%-2% milk and heaven for bid eating actual loaved bread....my Mom made homemade bread everyday....Eating healthier is a priveledge when you are older I think...especially when you don't have have the extra.

Education is key!

Trying to make food stamps stretch to include healthy food is difficult. Years ago, I had to go on food stamps for a few months. It was awful; the stamps never made it to the 3rd week of the month. I tried shopping sales, going into the store with a list and not deviating from it, using coupons, etc. It's still nearly impossible to stretch those stamps to the end of the month. No wonder there's such an obesity problem in this country.

Not to disclose too much of my background but growing up I remember the government cheese and butter we would get... Ummm I guess the government wasn't to concerned about health in the 1970s and 80s either.
My only point is that I agree. But I only agree that it is hard to eat healthy on any budget let alone on assistance.
