I will vote for Rutishin simply by the fact that @ least he DID tour the lawless EastSide this summer. I doubt seriously Annie G. will do anymore than ConArtis did. NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he can show me what he's done in 8 years (other than get paid) then i'll change my tune.

How can Annie say she wants them dumps of stores clean? Please. How about forcing them jokers to clean up their act? Get rid of the riffraff, aka loiterers. All out in the open and the cops just let it go on. who in the hell wants to go to a store and see these smelly bastards out all hours of the day.

All they're doing is hanging around, making illegal transactions, and five-0 knows but continues to look the other way. And what about that Speed Check on Albert? Smells like piss when you drive up in there. That's because the owner lets those nasty ass vagrants hang around, bother customers, sell dope in the lots, especially @ night.

And what about the lawlessness in every ward? No matter how we fuss, the mayor and his clowns refuse to hear our cries for help. Let me school y'all on this: How many of these "convenient" stores do y'all see in Boardman? Poland? Canfield? If its not acceptable out there, why in the hell is there a smelly, filthy ass store on wevery block in the innercity then?

And why all these thugs congreagate at these stores? Something IS rotten here, and unless these weak ass politicians and useless cops actually do something, its only going to get worse. Now i know i pepper my language a bit, if i offend, sorry, but i'm sick of this crap in this city, and these so-called powers need a shake up NOW!

I like the fact that your name is "The Difference Maker" however the only difference that you're making is reducing the amount of available white space on this message board. I don't dispute what you're saying but if you're going to call yourself "The Difference Maker" then go out and make a difference with regard to what you are posting on this site. There are too many "talkers" and not enough doers’ in the city of Youngstown. This is exactly why Youngstown is getting so bad. Here's an idea, go volunteer your time on the weekends in the city and actually make a difference instead of just talking about making a difference. As the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words.

To TYB, thanks for the knowledge and kind words. i do make a difference in my neck of the woods. I do volunteer from time to time with my church. I do go to nursing homes and visit the sick with some of my church buddies. I help out in the neighborhood as well. But the biggest difference i'll make in a couple of years will be either 1st ward council, because we are indeed fed up with anyone named Gillam, or i might pull a fast one and run for mayor.

At least if i did either, i'll have the interests of the people in mind. Hey, after you've lived in this city for as long as i have, and yet you see no positive results, then its time to get in it, to win it. I refuse to kiss butt like the other wimps in office, nor will i EVER rubber stamp any of Jaybird's or his cronies lame ideas.

If i get in office and @#$%& so-called good ol' boys, who cares. This city needs more boat rockers, not butt kissers. Don't you agree?

Yes, I agree 100%. Most politicians, whether they are on the local, state or federal level become so enamored with themselves that they lose sight of how they got there in the first place. The city of Youngstown needs to have leaders who will put the people of their community first, not themselves. The city of Youngstown also needs members of the community to stand up and take action like you are doing. Volunteer in the community, clean up the streets, patrol their own neighborhoods, etc. Until there is an even combination of both, Youngstown is bound to fail.

After reading this article, I am amazed that we don't draft candidates with better ideas. We need movers and shakers. These people are stuck in the mud.

They don't have new ideas;they have old, worn out ones. Consider their rhetoric. They support zero tolerance, which is a failed plan to reduce crime. They talk of demolishing vacant houses, cleaning up corner grocery stores, beautifying our city's gates, barring convicted drug addicts from living within the boundaries of the city, hiring more police, and creating conflict resolution councils.

Not one of them even mentioned JOBS. We are doomed if this is the best that we have!

I agree somewhat. The new council will be somewhat of positive change in that they are relatively on board with the long term vision of the city. Lesser reaction and a little more proaction from what I'm hearing. We'll see. It certainly will be an improvement over the last council but that's not saying much. This new council should also help Williams to accompish more of what he has wanted to move forward with from the start. Collectively, however, these guys are NOWHERE near the talent level of what we have out there among some of the young activists/bloggers whatever, that are emerging. These guys need to run and get involved. From what I understand that is coming.

I agree. We need candidates with vision. New ideas. New blood.
