They ought to put her in a car and slam into her at a high rate of speed. This is a family man who has had his share of tragedy in his life. I grew up with this man and know just what a wonderful person he always has been. He doesn't deserve this. His family doesn't deserve this. His friends don't deserve this. NO ONE DESERVES THIS!! She better end up with more than just a slap on the wrist. I am so tired of hearing about alcholism being a disease and all of the excuses... they need to make examples of people who drink and drive.

as a victim of a crime i can feel for this family and what they are going through. Our society must start setting the example of proper punishment for crime. This young lady thought it was okay because she either seen someone get away with it or has gotten away with it in the past. if youngstown and the surronding communities want to see the city become what they once where they need to start enforcing our laws, instead of reacting to them.

Not so surprisingly, Im amazed at how much news coverage this police officers incident has gotten, not that he doesn't deserve it, this is one step shy of "as terrable as it gets" for a public official that isn't paid anywhere near what his duties are worth. BUT, How about giving the same coverage to the poor tiny drunk lady that got the living crap tazered out of her by some scumbag warren police officer. May GOD bless this Policeman and his family, he is going to have a long road to recovery and it only gets worse before it gets better.

That poor, tiny drunk lady who had the "crap" tazered out of her was fine the next day; as are most suspects who recieve a tazer. That is why tazers are so widely used: they are effective as heck with little or no "damage" (other than the immediate pain which forces compliance).

What happened to this cop is a tragedy, and it is a tragedy for the poor girl whose life is also ruined by alcohol abuse. I just hope this gentlemen lives on for his family's sake.

ALCOHOL: Wrecking families and putting people in acoma and jail since 500bc.

If they know these cars crash and burn..why are they not having a recall? Burns are agonizing. In the article one police was in a high speed pursuit. Seems retribution is swift. When you chase cars through neighborhoods and on the highway at 100 miles per hour, you don't care if you kill somebody, even if it is yourself. I know there are still good cops..if the burn victim is one, I pray he gets well. For the dirty cops that beat people, and lie about it, I have these words= BURN BABY BURN- IN HELL!!

I don't like cops. In fact, I despise them. But your comments are out of line. At the end of the day, we are all human beings. No one deserves to be rear ended by a sloppy assed drunk and damn near killed. Many burn victims do not make it. Again, I don't know this guy and I don't like cops. But I have the decency not to make smart assed comments when someone is fighting for his life. It could be you azzhole. It could be me. Let's see if this changes people's perception that drinking is cool and that a 22 year old drunk behind the wheel of a ton of metal is just a "kid having fun."

She is not a kid. She is a grown woman and they should throw the book at her. Not because she hit a cop, but because she injured another human being due to her own reckless and selfish behavior.

Dirty cops are the ones out of line. Remember "we are all humans" when you have no pity for private citizens gunned down on our streets. Mother Fluck you and the dirty abusive cops. I said if this guy is a good one, I hope he gets better. And I still say for the bad ones, Being burned alive is too good for them. I have been a undeserving victim of police abuse, because I spoke up. I said Bad cops. Is the one fighting for his life Bad? May the Bad cops burn in this life and forever in the hereafter for @#@&%eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A full tank of gas will not explode but ignite. Fumes have to build for an explosion to occur. There is something to be said about having a full tank.
If a vehicle is hit from behind at a great rate of speed, such as this, it is not possible for a car to be "safer". The only option to avoid an explosion like this is finding a way the fumes could be released.
This is a horrible accident, please remember this driver didn't do this with criminal intent. Drunk driving may be a crime, but most of these people aren't "criminals" like armed robbers & rapists.
