I don't understand how citizens can object to having a camera take a picture of a speeder. Isn't speeding illegal? Don't speeders take a chance of endangering lives? Shouldn't speeding and red light running be stopped whether it's manual or automatically? So someone says they won't go to Girard because they don't want their picture taken...does that mean they only speed through Girard? Isn't it important to have an officer responding to emergency calls rather than sitting on a corner with a radar gun and hand writing tickets? If I lived in Girard I'd be thanking the City Fathers for caring about my safety not bad mouthinng them.

The camera does not take a picture of the person driving the car-it takes a picture of the vehicle and the license plate. The problem may look black and white to you, but it isn't as simple as you think.

Yes, speeding is illegal-that is the point. Speeding infractions are governed by the Ohio Revised Code which states that points must be assessed for violations. Girard's scheme makes it a civil violation, where monetary fines are assessed. A person can either pay the "ticket", appeal through the "hearings" which don't take place in a court of law, or simply ignore it. This does absolutely nothing to take unsafe drivers off the road. It does nothing to stop drunk or reckless drivers. A person can get twenty tickets in the mail while retaining their license.

This isn't even about speeding-it is about the lack of due process, the ignoring of constitutional safeguards, the illegality of Girard's traffic (s)cam, Girard's circumvention of the laws of the state of Ohio, unlawful shifting of the burden of proof-just to name a few.
