I greatly respect both Judge Evans and Paul Gains. I think they are both conscientious public servants and do their best to preserve and protect the people they represent. I have worked for Paul and I have appeared in front of Judge Evans. I believe that Judge Evans is a very good man and a very fine Judge. I believe Paul Gains is an honest, good man, who treats people who work for him with dignity and respect. However, with regard to Patty Meade's article, I do not believe that Mike Villani saying he just received something that turns out to have been given to him one week prior is a lie. In prosecutor time one week is equivalent to just getting something. Trying felony cases is serious stuff and sometimes you have to make great effort to prepare for defense evidence that is turned over to you at the last minute. Further, it is very difficult to prepare for two trials at the same time. Most felony cases have multiple witnesses that you have to spend a great deal of time talking to prior to the trial. I would have hated to have to be ready on two separate cases on the same date. I do understand the complexities of keeping a court docket moving. In my experience, Judge Evans does a great job of keeping his docket moving and assuring that people who deserve their date in court get it.
