Any Deer Hunters Out There?
Posted by: brand (IP Logged)

I've never done any hunting outside of chasing squirrels with a BB gun as a kid. Deer hunting is something that I've always wanted to do and seriously plan to take it up this year. I'm wondering if anybody out there can offer me some recommendations on books or any other resources that might help me get started. Unfortunately, all of the men I know right now are wimps who lean toward vegetarianism or even veganism. They don't know anything other than how to call people to do everything for them. I, on the other hand, want to get back in touch with our paleo ancestors. Yeah, I know, they didn't have guns, but I think you know what I'm talking about. Any help is much appreciated.

1. get a copy of the hunting regulation book at any walmart sporting section.

2. get a 12 guage gun at any hunting store

3. get buck shot or slug amunition.

4. find some new friends. you really need to have a mentor.

A hunters safety course would be a good idea also. There's more to deer hunting than getting a gun and walking into the woods. And LP is right, find a mentor.

Whitetails Unlimited should be able to help you out!!

I love them!

Also the game warden.....

But you definitely, definitely need a hunters safety training course..
Do not.. I repeat DO NOT pick up a gun and traipse off into the woods thinkin you're gonna shoot something. It could be you that gets shot or you could end up shooting another hunter.

Brand,

Please do not go to the store and buy buck shot. It is not legal to take a deer with that style of ammunition. Well it wasn't the last time I checked. Deer hunting is not a game so please find a mentor and learn what you can from people who are willing to teach. I grew up hunting in the Y-town area starting off with small game and then making my way into deer hunting. It might not be a bad idea to find a friend that hunts and just sit with them for a season to learn what it takes to hunt these animals. That's just my two cents.. Good luck and please don't shoot me.
